G40 P HEADS COMPLETE, SOLD MY 40P CYLINDER HEADS

I am a detail guy and I didnt know enough about heads. I took a class at a local State College to learn about cylinder heads, I had already done various work on cars and powertrains but wanted specific knowledge and terms, machine work, best practices used so I could better completely understand 4 cycle engines. I learn best by doing and I got to build my own set of cylinder heads exactly the way I wanted (with professional help)

You can see how nice the heads ended up.

Since it was the first year for the class as it was put together - and the school had just gotten a very nice milling machine, that I got to use extensively performing operations on these heads.
I do not know the model, but becuase it was new the instructors needed to set it up and they used my eBay-bought Gt40-P heads as their mockup pieces. The feet of the machine needed to be adjusted to make the fixture perfectly level. The main surface was movable on a cushion of air. New bits and chucks were tested out becuase what I wanted done to the heads needed different tooling at different times, each set-up was a new experiance for the instrutors, and benefited their knowledge of the machine and benefited myself for getting all this work done on my heads, and knowledge; by hands on experiance setting up a machine like this and peforming machine operations personally.

We cut out the exhaust seats and inserted hardened seats. We bored out the iron valve guides and inserted solid bronze-phophorous guide liners, and chamfered the ends. We performed a 5 angle valve job on the new exhaust seats (milling a bit of the spark plug boss during the operation). It was a good experiance.
Next I will do the same regarding Auto Paint and Body, so I can ensure that my 1967 Mustang Fastback (my first car) gets done with the level of professional detail that I demand.

Before the class started I had started looking for parts for the heads such as the valves, I knew that I needed to choose valves (and cam) before I could decide on springs. I slowly collected money and had some time to team up with a super meticulous bud of mine who used to work for Ron Miller of FPP and knew parts. We looked into Manley valves and after measuring the heads to see what we thought would fit ended up with 1.94" and 1.554 Stainless Steel undercut swirl polished valves with the same stem height. This was an important detail because Ford had for a long time had different stem heights on intake and exhaust valves using different valve rotator designs for each that were different thickness. This could affect spring and retainer choices because different installed heights were indicated by this varying placement of the keeper groove on the valve. I never decided on a cam and therefore did not get springs.

I ended up needing to sell these heads

I placed an ad on my site and craigslist, linking to my site, and determined to get $1000 for them or not sell. The person who ended up buying them lived half way across the country and as you can see in the ad page: The ad showing the unfinished 40P heads they were not complete. The gentleman wanted me to finish the heads and take care of everything for him. I told him that I would recommend parts for him to buy, some should be shipped to me to install on the heads, some directly to him (gasket set etc) and I would build them but only in the high quality manner that I deem accecptable. He readily agreed. I made sure he knew that he would have to measure and purhcase pushrods after the heads were installed on the engine since the heads now had an adjustable valvetrain and the heads had been milled. I hired TAYLOR ENGINE complete the heads, by cutting the spring seat to fit the dual springs with flat wire dampner Jay Steele selected, they used the valves I already had, and the titanium retainers were used - Jay kept them in mind when selecting the springs. The last image on this page is the receipt from Taylor Engine regarding these heads.
