Before I removed the 454 engine that this kit powered, I even took the truck to the drag races to see what a 454 propane powered engine could do in a 1980 chevy short bed pickup truck in the 1/8 mile, and it turns out 9.94 seconds! To put it in perspective, my Mustang did 9.32 sec and the LPG truck had off-road tires! I got cheered when I made the run. If you go down the page you can see a pic from when I was there. I sold the truck body but kept the entire powertrain because it ran so good! The engine ended up being a 4 bolt 454 that is now in my DADs 1965 Chevy surbaban-carryall along with the transmission. My dad didnt want propane tank inside his surbaban so I now sell the entire operating kit! I had a NEW sherwood Flow Bonnet to replace the one in the tank, it fits many applications, also my dad had a square-bore intake so I got an adaptor both items that you now get! Complete kit from REGULATOR/CONVERTER to LPG gas line to "Carb" Mixer, Air cleaner and NEW parts. It powered my truck very well, I could smoke the tires at a moments notice % cruise on the freeway at 90mph all day. When I took apart the 454 engine, it was absolutly beautiful. There was no carbon build up anywhere in the engine. The cylinder walls really looked new. Running Propane will make your engine last MUCH longer. Really a wonderful alternative-energy fuel. Thanks for looking! Price is $360.00 OBO |

After this, I decided I had to sell the truck, as beloved I considered it, I just couldn't get it legal because the '80 cant have the 454 engine in California!!!. I wanted to keep the engine and the propane gear because it ran so damn good, I loved it... As I bolted the block up to an engine stand, I saw a gold plaque stating it was a GM crate engine...hmm that nice but when upon removal of the oil pan: Surprise! Its a 4 bolt main!! I sold it to my dad for a nominal fee so he could use it in his 1965 carry all I found for him more on that later... Here are some pictures of the engine just when I took it out.
Dang that thing was clean; the oil, coolant were pristine, there was no sludge no build up no unpleasant surprises at all! The hone marks were clearly visible in the bores the lifter valley looked freshly scrubbed. I have no idea how many miles were on the truck and / or this power plant, but I would guess that the truck itself had far more miles than this GMC rebuild job & therefore LPG equipment. I have to wonder though: why use a plastic-toothed timing gear set? Cheap or low noise? It hardly seems a good trade for if the teeth break major damage will ensue... this is no Japanese DOHC non-interference engine after all...
So I mentioned using this engine in a 1965 Chevy
Carryall.... I found it in a storage yard my pal used to store his boat.
It was exactly to my Dad's specifications, and he bought it. He wanted
a specific non barn-doors, he wanted a tailgate, it was a bit rough, in fact it
lacted interior... pretty much completely. I got to help my dad quite a
bit, I sourced all the guages, the dash bezel, the engine, (of course) many
engine accessories
Take a look at
the buildup of my dads truck. Otherwise, the next area is the many thumbnails for the item I have for sale:
